Exhibition
Matthew Kel is a visual artist and printmaker and the aim of his work is to use themes, processes and aesthetics of 1960s Pop Art to explore his own fascination with the social construct of Capitalism and its salient relationship with Modern: Popular and Consumer Culture. He produces work in multiple media, drawn from a personal point of view, formed from over a decade of working in the fast food industry.

Matthew Kel is a graduate in Fine Art, taking special interest in themes, promotional material, branding and identity. After leaving University College Falmouth in 2012, he began a voluntary role at the Bluecoat Gallery in Liverpool as a gallery technician and within six months was given a freelance contract. In 2013, his piece entitled ‘Tins‘ was commissioned as one of only 15 works to be included in the Rogues Galleries project in Chester. Matthew first began design work at University, producing the logo, poster and postcard work for his degree show ‘Contexture’ installed at the Fish Factory in Falmouth Cornwall. Since then he has worked freelance for theatre companies, a new, up and coming gym in Southport and also working for Sefton Council to produce promotional material for the first ‘Southport Arts Festival’ in 2014.

Presently Matthew is studying an MA in visual communication at the University of Derby and graduates this year.

The exhibition runs from 26 March – 13 April and is open week days 10am-3pm (closed 30 March – 3 April over Easter)
Weekends by appointment only
