TRACKWAYS, TURNPIKES AND THE TANTIVY

Talk
Arkwright Society Evening Talk

Join Trevor Griffin from Belper North Mill to hear the story of how roads and horse drawn transport services were developed along the Derwent Valley to support the industrial industrial growth of this area. The talk includes the story of the Cromford and Belper Turnpike of 1818 and of the "Tantivy" coach which ran between the two places. The original coach used for the service from Derby to Matlock Bath in the 1890's was revived for a special event a part of the 2017 Discovery Days to celebrate the bicentenary of this road.

Wine and Cheese will be served at the start of the evening.

Places are limited and advance booking is recommended.
