Babbling Vagabonds Job Opportunity: Producer - Production Development

An exciting new job opportunity has arisen for a producer - production development role from storytelling and theatre production group Babbling Vagabonds.

Overview: ‘Adventure Shack’

This is a new collaboration between Claire Crook and Babbling Vagabonds, co-commissioned by Barnsley Civic and Greentop Community Circus.

The production concept is of a crashed flying machine occupied by a granny. As she sorts through the wreckage her memories are uncovered. Her lifetime of adventures unfolds; and we discover how she was shaped into the resourceful, thoughtful, resilient elderly lady we see before us.

Through funding from Arts Council England, Babbling Vagabonds have undertaken a period of Research and Development, collaborating with three Circus professionals and developing a shared understanding of the process that they all undertake to create work.

Next Steps:

1. Develop a model for a business plan for the project.
2. Write and present the business plan.
3. Write funding application(s) for the 2-year project.

The 2 year Project:

The team at Babbling Vagabonds want to develop the new piece of circus theatre over a 2 year period:

Year 1: The creation of the set and show; a limited tour to 4 outdoor spaces - Barnsley, Sheffield, Derby and BV’s hometown of Buxton.
Year 2: Longer Tour - to existing festivals and street events and stand alone events.

Their longer-term plan is to deliver a larger tour across the Midlands and Yorkshire and beyond after 2023.

Key Objectives of the post:

- In consultation with the creative team (Babbling Vagabonds and Claire Crook) and the co-commissioners (Greentop and Barnsley Civic) to develop a business plan for the show, detailing the aims and objectives to achieve the production and support a larger funding bid to ACE.
- Within the parameters set by the creative team, create a detailed budget for the show based on the outcomes of the Research and Development process.
- To explore other fundraising opportunities and ideas to build the match funding pot.
- Consider additional programmes of work. For example: supporting a participation programme for yr 2, identify the role for a tour booker and marketing the event(s).
- Regular feedback with updates and work to date.

Opportunity details:

Fee £2500 total (including VAT and all expenses).
Expected time: 10-15 days.
