Vertigo on the roof of Buckingham Palace.  Nearly blowing the closing ceremony of the Olympics.  Watching his underpants fall to earth on Bowie’s driveway. Things have gone a smidge surreal since the Madness frontman was a twelve year old in shorts on the tough streets of North London.

Carmen

Carmen is the best-known work by French composer Georges Bizet, and one of the most famous operas in the entire art form. Numbers such as the Habanera and the Toreador Song have permeated the popular consciousness as little else has. The opera’s heady combination of passion, sensuality and violence initially proved too much for the stage, and it was a critical failure on its 1875 premiere. Bizet died shortly after, and never learned of the spectacular success his Carmen would achieve: the opera has been performed more than five hundred times at Covent Garden alone.

Robert Jebb & Jon Morgan

Jebb won the British Fell Running Championships in 2003, 2006 and 2013 and the English Championships in 2006 and 2008. He has also won the Ben Nevis Race four times.

In July 2016, Jebb completed the Bob Graham Round in 14 hours 30 minutes, then the second-fastest round of all time and the first time any runner had come within an hour of Billy Bland's 1982 record of 13 hours 53 minutes

Rob will cover both his mountain running and cycling career in his talk.

Jon Morgan enjoys many different sports and is keen to show a few slides of some of his more memorable outings. On New Year's Day a few years ago he ran an unsupported winter Bob Graham round, something very few people have done - he has a few slides of that, but not many as it was dark for 17 hours! He has been a passionate climber all his life and will next take you step by step up the North Face of the Eiger. Thirdly on skis he did the famous Chamonix Zermatt ski tour in a continuous nonstop push in 30 hours, a journey normally taking a week. Premiering in October 2017, Charge, Motionhouse’s incredible new multi-media show is about energy.
From the electrical charge that sparks human life, to the beating of our hearts and the memories we make, six performers use dance and acrobatics to delve deep into the human body, tracing the incredible story of energy in our lives.
Digital projections create a world on stage where dancers and images interact seamlessly, bringing to life stories of energy in our own bodies, humans as energy manipulators and the Earths weather systems. In an exciting fusion of art and science, Motionhouse has worked with partners from the University of Oxford on the role of electricity in the human body to inspire the show.

This hit musical, inspired by the life of rock legend Marc Bolan, returns to the stage to mark the 40th anniversary of the iconic stars untimely death.
Featuring some of the greatest rock songs ever written, 20th Century Boy tells the life story of the legendary Bolan and his band T. Rex. Shappi Khorsandi

Mistress & Misfit

Shappi presents England's unsung heroine, Emma Hamilton.
For too many years she has been known as just ‘Nelson's mistress', a bit of a harlot. (You get ONE job in a brothel and bang goes your reputation.) Women's lib wasn't a 'thing' in Georgian times; Emma moved mountains to haul herself from 'scullery maid' to 'Lady Hamilton'. Yes, she occasionally danced on tables naked to get ahead in life, but who hasn't? As a fellow naked dancer on tables, Shappi is inspired by Emma, although she never wants hair big enough to house mice in.

Royal Ballet Live Screening

Bernstein Centenary

The Royal Ballet celebrates the centenary of Leonard Bernstein’s birth with an all-Bernstein programme from choreographers Wayne Mcgregor, Liam Scarlett and Christopher Wheeldon.
Leonard Bernstein was one of the first classical composers in America to achieve both popular and critical acclaim. He was eclectic in his sources drawing on jazz and modernism, the traditions of Jewish music and the Broadway musical and many of Bernstein’s scores are remarkably well suited to dance. He was particularly associated with Jerome Robbins, their credits together including Fancy Free and West Side Story.
To celebrate the centenary year of the composers birth, The Royal Ballet has united all three of its associate choreographers to celebrate the dynamic range and danceability of Bernstein’s music. The programme includes two world premieres by Resident Choreographer Wayne McGregor and Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon, marking each artists first foray into Bernstein.
