Wathall’s Raises Funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

Staff at local independent funeral directors Wathall’s have raised £211 for Macmillan Cancer Support after joining the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning at its Macklin Street head office.

Wathall’s staff, family and friends prepared hand-made baked goods for the event and then invited the public and members of the company’s Derby Dandelions bereavement support group to join in the event.  

How ordinary soldiers broke the rules to photograph life and death in WW1

Remarkable photographs taken by front-line soldiers have revealed a completely new picture of life and death in the First World War, an author will demonstrate at Buxton International Festival’s Book Weekend.

Historian Richard Van Emden will share hundreds of photos taken without permission from the military authorities when he talks about his new book in the spa town’s Pavilion Arts Centre on November 23.

In 1918: The Decisive Year in Soldiers’ Own Words and Photographs, Richard tells the story of how close the last stages of the conflict was.

1623 is thrilled to announce that Rikki Beadle-Blair joins Mark Ravenhill and Dame Janet Suzman as another world-class artist who embodies and reflects what the company is all about.

Rikki Beadle-Blair MBE is a writer, director, composer, choreographer, designer, producer and performer. He has won several awards including the Sony Award, the Los Angeles Outfest Screenwriting and Outstanding Achievement awards.
