Cupcake Day To Raise Money For Dementia Research

Family-owned funeral directors G Wathall & Son will be inviting people to its branches in Derby city centre, Ashbourne, Borrowash and Alvaston on Thursday June 15 to help raise money for research into dementia.

The company is taking part in the Alzeheimer’s Society’s annual Cupcake Day and will be serving tea, coffee and cakes for visitors between 10am and 12 noon with every crumb of money raised going to the UK’s leading dementia charity.

Puppetry Performance Planned for Derby Festé

A giant 20ft walking tree will be among the diverse range of cutting-edge street theatre that will bring the city centre streets alive during this September’s Derby Festé.

Arbor – who looks like a tree but moves like a human – is the creation of award-winning theatre company Smoking Apples who are this year’s chosen commission for the annual festival.

Poignant Programme For Sinfonia Viva

East Midlands Orchestra Sinfonia Viva will return to Derby Cathedral on Wednesday June 28 for a poignant performance as part of Derby Remembers - a season of cultural events and activities to commemorate the First World War and the city’s connection to the conflict.

The concert, starting at 7.30pm, will feature excerpts from Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem – focusing on the chamber orchestra elements and Wilfred Owen’s poems about the First World War.

This Little Boutique has been unveiled in Town Street, Duffield, by Mickleover mum of two Emma Auger – a self-confessed fashion fan.

Emma has spent the past 25 years specialising in marketing a wide range of professional services but her first love has always been clothes.

Derby College Teams Up With Eurocamp For New Launch

Derby College has become the third FE college in the UK to offer a special Travel and Tourism course that includes a six-month paid internship in France with Eurocamp.

The level three study programme will start this September and is available to young people who are aged 18 by March 2018.

Bereavement Support Programme Starts

A free programme designed to give support and education to anyone following a bereavement will start again on Wednesday June 7.

The four-week Grief Journey Derby programme is funded by Derby and Ashbourne independent funeral directors G Wathall & Son.

The weekly sessions will be held during the day this time, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm, at the Cathedral Café in Iron Gate, Derby and must be pre-booked by contacting G Wathall & Son.

Taking Flight New Writing Competition – We want to hear your stories

After a successful launch in February 2017, Red Dragonfly Productions in association with Grist to the Mill are running Taking Flight Festival 2018 and are looking for new and emerging writers from British East Asian, South Asian and South East Asian communities who are interested in contributing and sharing their contemporary and traditional stories.

Successful applicants will be invited to a free workshop and from that three applicants will be selected to have their plays produced and performed in our festival in July 2018.

Derby Theatre announces new associate company

Derby Theatre is delighted to announce that  award-winning theatre company Not Too Tame  are now an official Associate Company of the organisation. 
 
Not Too Tame are an ensemble company of actors who are firmly founded in the belief of ‘Theatre for All’. As the company names suggests, they focus specifically in creating work that breaks the boundaries of tame, polite theatre and they aim to engage with those who feel that theatre isn’t a place where they belong.
