Cathedral Quarter Welcomes Research Findings

Derby’s Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District has welcomed research declaring Derby as the UK’s business start-up capital.
Business leaders in the area, which is the city centre’s central business district, say that the research findings further strengthen its work to attract new businesses into the area.
The research was carried out by London online company Quality Formations which looked at all 69 cities in the UK. Criteria included commercial property, energy prices, virtual office services, public transport, broadband service, workforce demographics, access to start-up finance and quality of life.
Derby’s affordable cost of living, cheap virtual office rates and above average wages all helped the city to outshine more established business centres such as London and Edinburgh.
Their findings also highlighted Derby as having some of the UK’s fastest internet speeds and acknowledged the benefits of the city having two Business Improvement District (BID) areas.
The research announcement follows the recent launch by the Cathedral Quarter BID of a high-quality Prospectus showcasing the strengths of the Cathedral Quarter as a business address and providing an overview of the wide range of office and retail accommodation available to businesses in the area.
Martin Langsdale, a chartered surveyor and chair of the Cathedral Quarter Board, which drives forward activities under the area’s BID status, said: “The findings of the Quality Formations research is excellent news for the Cathedral Quarter and lend further credence to the case outlined in the Cathedral Quarter Derby Prospectus  which showcases the area as the ideal location in which businesses can launch and grow.
“The Prospectus has been produced by the Cathedral Quarter BID as part of our commitment to work with our partners to support and attract investment into the city centre and is being distributed across the UK to raise the profile of the Cathedral Quarter as a premium commercial property, retail and leisure investment opportunity.”
