Celebrating a whole year of laughter at the Derby Comedy Club

Did you know that The Derby Conference Centre is the only venue in the region to host a comedy club?

The Derby Comedy Club - hosted at The Derby Conference Centre – has been providing lots of laughs over the last 12 months and February will see it celebrate its first Birthday.

With sell-out shows month after month, the club has certainly succeeded in bringing comedy to Derby. It is the first and only venue for comedy in the city – and it is fast becoming the venue the country’s top comedians want to play. This year many of the finalists from Britain’s Got Talent will be wowing audiences with their routines, including 2018 finalist Robert White and Daliso Chaponda, one of the biggest comedy success stories of 2019. There’ll also be a few familiar faces from TV’s Live at the Apollo on the list of those who can now entertain audiences right here in Derby.

And there’s already been a huge demand for tickets to see these great line-ups. In fact, as of the beginning of January, those wishing to see one of the monthly shows will have to wait until May; every seat for the next 3 months is sold out!

This year the Derby Comedy Club is sponsored by Budweiser ‘The king of beers’, meaning that ticket holders can also enjoy discounts on the popular drink during the comedy club events.

The success of the Derby Comedy Club may of course also be partly due to the venue itself. The versatility of the Conference Centre, along with its great location – just a 5 minute Uber ride from Derby railway station and Pride Park – means that it’s easily accessible from most places. As well as having free car parking on site, there’s also the option to make a night of it and stay over in the on-site hotel in one of its 50 en-suite bedrooms.

When we spoke to Managing Director and Founder of Derby Comedy Club, Matthew Hutchings, he told us:

“I’m delighted with the success of the Derby Comedy Club and very excited about the great shows we have planned this year. My goals were to make Derby a prime location for an enjoyable night out, to make comedy affordable to all and, of course, to bring some fun to the people of Derby. This is the first regular comedy club to run in the city so there’s never been anything like it here before.”

Matthew certainly seems to have succeeded in achieving his goals so far and it looks like there’ll be plenty more laughs in store for audiences in Derby throughout 2020.
