Chamber Opera Tours to perform Jane Austen's Persuasion at Buxton Festival Fringe

Chamber Opera Tours to Honor Bicentary of Jane Austen’s Death by Delivering Original Musical Adaptation of Persuasion at the New Mills Art Theatre as part of the Buxton Festival Fringe 2017

100% of all ticket proceeds are donated back to the New Mills Art Theatre Renovation Project

Chamber Opera Tours, a professional not-for-profit opera company, is excited to be performing its original musical adaptation of Jane Austen’s beloved final novel Persuasion, commemorating the 200th anniversary of her death and its publication, at the 2017 Buxton Festival Fringe. 100% of all ticket proceeds will be donated to the renovation project at the New Mills Art Theatre in Buxton.

PERSUASION: A MUSICAL DRAMA, which has toured multiple UK and US cities over the last five years, is one of Jane Austen's most admired novels – the story of a woman who has lost at love and gets a second chance. The production will be touring with 40 artists - singers, dancers, and orchestra members - and will be presenting one performance only at the New Mills Art Theatre on Sunday, 16th July at 19.30.

“There is perfect synchronicity between the cast and the impressive chamber orchestra.  One of the most striking observations for Austen fans is Barbara Landis’ commitment to retaining much original dialogue which is complemented superbly by Austen’s favourite music and luxurious costumes. There are a great many highlights to this performance – not least the rousing sailor songs which demonstrate the vocal talents of the entire company and treat us to Irish tap routines of the highest order.”

With adaptation by Barbara Landis, this fully staged production features a chamber orchestra with Celtic and period instruments, authentic costuming and sets, beautiful projected scenery, and world-champion Irish dancers.

This widely acclaimed stage production features Stage Direction by Coventry native Nick Sandys and Kyle Dougan (University of London), Musical Direction by Linda Madonia, Choreography by Sara Stewart Schumann and Projected Scenery Design by John Boesche.

“Flashes of humour, great dancing, a small but perfect orchestra, clever scene changes with very well done projections, and the cast of over 30 all playing their roles to perfection … one of the best evening’s entertainment I’ve had”

Written at the height of her literary career, PERSUASION is one of the most compelling love stories ever penned. Anne Elliot has rejected a proposal of marriage from the one man she truly loved, Captain Frederick Wentworth. She was persuaded by her godmother that Captain Wentworth was unworthy, but after a separation of nearly a decade, he returns from sea with both rank and fortune. Anne is nearly an old maid and her once rich family faces bankruptcy. Can Anne win him back? Can he forgive her? Can their lost love be rekindled?
