Derby College Students Support Local Food Bank

Mature learners at Derby College’s Ilkeston campus in Pimlico have collected and donated food and toiletries to Ilkeston Arena food bank.

The students are on the Access to Health Professions programme at the College with their sights set on progressing onto University and a range of careers in nursing, midwifery and other health care professions..

Lecturer Juliett Coates explained: “As part of their study unit on issues around poverty, the students have been researching support available to local communities and were particularly struck by the work that is carried out by volunteers at Ilkeston Arena to support people in need.

“As a group we have collected five boxes of non-perishable food and two boxes of toiletries which we hope will support the initiative and help local families during the winter months.”
