Derby Company Expands With Cambridgeshire Acquisition

Derby-based Clean Slate, one of the Midlands’s largest independent commercial cleaning companies, has expanded with the acquisition of Trojan Commercial Cleaning East Anglia.

Clean Slate has been operating in the region for 60 years and has more than 230 staff working at a range of customer sites across the region from GP surgeries and schools to offices and factories.

The company has now acquired Trojan Commercial Cleaning, based in Soham, Cambridgeshire, with the help of funding from Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking.  Trojan is a family-owned company which has been established since 1985 – employing 90 people with contracts across East Anglia.

Clean Slate Managing Director Mike Armitage explained: “Having grown organically in recent years, we have been looking at further expansion through acquisition for some time.

“We were however keen to find a company with a similar pedigree and ethos in an area that would widen our geographical customer base.

“Both Clean Slate and Trojan are family-owned and share a particular expertise in the healthcare and education sectors.

“By coming together, we will now be able to offer a seamless service across the Midlands and East Anglia.

“Trojan’s director Anita Mills will be staying on in a consultancy role and we look forward to working together to support existing and new customers with their commercial cleaning requirements.”

Andrew Bishop, relationship manager at Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking, said: “Clean Slate is an ambitious firm with a strong management team at the helm. Trojan Commercial Cleaning strongly complimented the business and the acquisition was a natural step in achieving its growth plans.

“At Lloyds Bank we’re dedicated to supporting businesses like Clean Slate that are looking to expand, which is why we have pledged to increase our lending to SMEs on a net basis by more than £1billion this year, to help more businesses fulfil their potential.”

Closer to home, Clean Slate continues to recruit new cleaning staff for new and existing contracts across the region.

Mr Armitage continued: “We pride ourselves on being different to our competitors through our triple guarantee to ensure 100% customer satisfaction and therefore invest heavily in training and support for our staff to enable them to get the job done right, first time.

“This, and the fact that we buck the industry trend by not operating on zero hours’ contracts, means that the majority of our staff have been with us for many years.

“With further new customers due to come on board with us in the coming weeks and months, we are recruiting more new staff across the East and West Midlands.”
