Derby LIVE invites Local Acts to take part in Christmas Lights Switch-On Parade

With the festive season approaching and preparations underway for the return of the Christmas Lights Switch-On, Derby LIVE would like to invite local acts, community groups, dance groups and performers to apply to take part in the parade.

This year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On will take place on Saturday 18 November. The Christmas parade and Derby City Council organised Switch-on event did not take place last year, so it’s exciting that the much-loved event is making a return to the city as part of the delivery of one of the Council’s 50 Pledges of the Labour administration to ensure Derby is a safe, strong and ambitious city. Gem 106 is the Official Radio Station for Derby Christmas Lights Switch-on this year, and they will be hosting the stage show. The full programme for the event will be announced this Autumn.

The celebrations on the Market Place will begin from 3.30pm, with a festive parade that will travel down from The Spot at 4.30pm, through the City Centre to the Market Place.

Councillor Amo Raju, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: “We are looking forward to organising the celebrations at this year’s festive lights and switch-on event. There is a wealth of talent in Derby and we encourage local acts and groups to apply to perform at the Christmas parade, which can be enjoyed by the whole community.”

Those interested in taking part should be available between 3pm and 6pm on Saturday 18 November and should apply by contacting Sally Greatorex at sally.greatorex@derby.gov.uk in Derby LIVE’s Outdoor Events team or by calling 01332 640848.
