Derbys Finest Supports Women’s Professional Development

Derbys Finest - a group which aims to inspire, celebrate and support women across the county - is planning an event as part of its commitment to support female leaders of the future.

The group will hold its first professional development session at the University of Derby Law School in Agard Street on Monday October 28.

Open to women from all industry and community sectors, the three-hour event will include sessions on leadership and mentoring as well as opportunities to network with fellow attendees.

University of Derby Senior Lecturer Dave Lees will introduce the principals behind the new Leadership for Modern Business short programme.  This will be followed by a session on mentoring skills by the University’s Head of Digital and Enterprise Learning Dr Margaret Korosec.

Derbys Finest was formed in March 2017 and is led by a committee of women including Claire Twells from Smith Partnership Solicitors, Bev Crighton from the University of Derby and Amanda Strong from Mercia Image Print in Little Eaton.

The group does not charge for membership and is open to women from all industry, professional and community sectors at all stages of their careers from apprentices and graduates to senior directors and community leaders.

Claire Twells explained: “As a group, we are committed to supporting and celebrating women who make a positive impact in their business and their wider local communities.

“This event has been organised in response to feedback, particularly from small business owners and younger women with management and leadership aspirations, that they would welcome support with their professional development.

“We are therefore initially focusing on leadership skills in the changing workplace and on mentoring which is a key part in all of our professional and personal lives.

“Both skills perfectly reflect the diverse roles that women play at work, home and their local communities and there will be information available about the further short programmes available through the University of Derby to further develop skills.”

The Derbys Finest event starts at 4.30pm and finishes at 7pm.  It costs £10 per person which will cover light refreshments and contribute to the organisations pledge to raise money for a number of local and national charities.
