Fall in Love With Dancing At Valentine’s Social Event

Derby-based regional dance house Déda will hold a special Valentine’s event on Saturday February 13 to inspire people of all ages and abilities to fall in love with dancing. The Social Dance event will be held at the Chapel Street studios starting at 8pm and hosted by Déda’s team of tutors who specialise in a wide range of dance styles from Rock ‘n’ Roll and Rumba to Argentine Tango and Foxtrot.

There will also be demonstrations by Ballroom and Latin champions Joshua Horsley (20) and his partner Grace Phipps (16) who both live in Long Eaton. Joshua is a student on the University of Derby BA (Hons) Dance degree programme which is based at Déda.  He and Grace continue to be highly successful on the competition circuit across the UK. Joshua said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to take part in the Social Dance event which will be a fantastic way for people to fall in love with dancing – either re-capturing their youth or trying new dances for the first time. “We will be demonstrating a wide range of dances from a waltz to a foxtrot and then making sure that everybody gets on their feet to join in.
“I am of the strong opinion that everybody can dance as it is as simple as walking.  You just need the confidence to give it a go.” Joshua was inspired to start Ballroom and Latin classes when he was just six years old after watching ‘Strictly’ on the television. “We now compete across the country including at the Tower Ballroom and Winter Gardens in Blackpool which are of course the home of ballroom dancing. “We specialise in ballroom dancing competitions and classical sequence which is reminiscent of the old dance halls when everybody is judged on the same dance and performs at the same time on the floor. “Having studied Performing Arts at Derby College, I am now in the second year of my Dance degree based at Déda which has introduced me to all sorts of dance techniques. “We have great lecturers and, with being based at Déda, have the opportunity to see how the dance industry works and meet a wide range of fantastic professional performers and choreographers. “It has inspired me to set my sights on a career as a professional dancer and I hope that this unique combination of skills learnt here and through my competition work will open a lot of doors for me in the future.”

Déda Head of Dance Development and Learning Clare Limb continued: “We have an incredibly talented group of tutors here who will be hosting the Social Dance event and I am delighted that Joshua will be representing our student body to inspire people to learn something new.

“Our dance classes continue to be extremely popular thanks to the continued success of ‘Strictly’. “People can come as couples or on their own. Either way this is the perfect event to fall in love with the magic of dance.”

Tickets for the event cost £8 and are available online www.deda.uk.com/whats-on or by calling the Box Office, Tel: 01332 370 911.
