Families To Join Bear Hunt at Little Explorers Family Forest School Day

Derby College’s Little Explorers Day Nursery at the Broomfield Hall campus in Morley is inviting families to an outdoor event designed to bring some of the best-loved children’s story books to life.

The Family Forest School Day will be held on Saturday April 16 between 9.30am and 1pm with outdoor story-telling and exploration activities based on well-known stories. Taking inspiration from the book ‘We're going on a bear hunt’ – families will follow the nature trail around Broomfield and make musical instruments.

There will also be a ‘Stick Man’ trail through woodland with creative activities and the ‘Fairy Tale Village’ will be brought to life with props and story boards to recreate and tell the story.

Little Explorers is a 54-place Forest School with much of the learning and play activities based outside in the picturesque grounds at Broomfield Hall. Manager Kate Cox explained: “Stories expand children's imaginations and encourage them to see the world from different perspectives as they take on the role of the characters. The outdoors is the perfect blank campus to make this happen. “This special event will bring these well-known books alive and help children to use a range of natural materials to make props for their stories. “We will also be sharing our experience as educators with parents – showing how to ignite a child’s curiosity and keep them interested whilst on a walk.”

The event costs £10 per family (two adults and two children) and free for registered parents at Little Explorers.

Places are limited.  Please call Kate Cox on 01332 836620 or email kate.cox@derby-college.ac.uk
