Football Fun and Games Raise Money For Local Charity

Staff at independent funeral directors G Wathall & Son have raised £417 for a local charity – collected at a number of community events.

The family-owned firm, which celebrates its 160th anniversary this year and now has offices in Derby city centre, Alvaston, Borrowash and Ashbourne, attended several community events over the past year where visitors were invited to test their football skills in return for a donation.

The Laura Centre Derby in Vernon Gate help local families when a child dies or is bereaved and this cheque joins the £30,000 already raised to support the organisation.

G Wathall & Son Managing Director Helen Wathall explained: “We have been part of our local communities since 1858 and try to attend as many events as we can to talk to people about the importance of making their funeral wishes known to their loved ones.

“The football game has been very popular at community events and we are delighted with the money that has been raised for The Laura Centre through people’s donations.

“The charity fits perfectly with our own bereavement support services through Derby Dandelions and the Grief Journey programme which both help people come to terms with and better cope with losing family and friends.”
