Haarlem Artspace: The Entanglement

Haarlem Artspace: The Entanglement

The Entanglement, a new Haarlem Periodical, features work by Victoria Lucas inviting us to the non-human world.

Lucas uses technology to remap, embody and entangle the material strata of landscape, a process where female subjectivity is reimagined and reclaimed in place. This new multimedia Periodical will be live from 28/03/21 -27/04/21 only.

This work follows on from Lucas's residency and show at Haarlem, Where Rock & Hardplace Meet. The strange and unique quarry landscape, exposed geology, and recolonised sites around Wirksworth inspired further work and research. The author Olive Schreiner wrote in a letter from Bole Hill Wirksworth in 1884 "It is so beautiful here to me Henry. On the hill opposite some great stone quarries. It is as though something tore the hill open & said “Here, you shall see not only the smooth but the hard strong stuff that is inside too.” Somehow I like quarries so."

There will be a culmination of this body of work later in the year at Sheffield's Site Gallery for the Freelands Artists Programme.
