Here be Dragons……

Here be dragons….. and leopards, tigers, elephants, rhinos orang-utans – and so much more! Wildlife Artist Pollyanna Pickering is proud to present an exhibition inspired by her recent expedition into the jungles of Indonesia. Over 50 paintings will be exhibited to the public for the first time from the 18th June – 3rd July in the relaxed and comfortable atmosphere of her private gallery at Brookvale House, Oaker, near Matlock (AA signposted). Visitors will be welcome between 10.00am – 6.00pm each day, admission free.

Made in Derbyshire member Pollyanna is often asked if she ever faces any dangerous situations while on her working expeditions – and on this most recent journey she came face to face with one of the most potentially dangerous creatures she has ever studied – armed only with a stick! Whilst in Indonesia Pollyanna visited several islands which are home to the legendary komodo dragons. She trekked in temperatures which reached 43ºC in order to come face to face with – and make sketches of – the world’s largest and most dangerous venomous lizards in their natural habitat.

Pollyanna also made a pilgrimage to Camp Leakey in Borneo which has been dedicated to the study, preservation and rescue of orang-utans for over thirty years. Pollyanna trekked into the forests to visit the rehabilitation centres where many of the orang-utans who have been released back in to the wild visit feeding platforms for meals of milk and bananas. There is nowhere else in the world you can see so many wild orangutans in their natural home – and Pollyanna made the most of this opportunity to fill her sketch folders. Some of the recently released youngsters still enjoy human contact – and if they initiate the encounter visitors can hold and interact with them. It is an amazing feeling to cradle a youngster, or walk hand in hand down the trail with them before they return to their jungle home! The rainforests are also home to tigers, clouded leopards, black leopards and a wealth of tropical bird life, all of which will feature in this exhibition.

Pollyanna will be in her gallery throughout the exhibition and will be pleased to sign copies prints and books, and to chat to visitors about her work and inspiration.
Two new limited edition prints will be exclusively launched during the exhibition. Also on display throughout will be Pollyanna’s extensive ranges of greetings cards, fine art and limited edition prints, and a wide variety of gift ware featuring her work – including stationery, china mugs, cross stitch kits, signed sets of her postage stamps issued in Africa, and first day covers for the Royal Mail alongside an exclusive display of the latest selection of gift ware commissioned by Harrods. Brand new card and papercraftingkits and printable DVDroms will also be available – as launched live on television in a series of increasingly popular programmes featuring Pollyanna live on the Create and Craft channel! A sneak preview of next year’s charity Christmas cards will also be available.

Tea and Coffee will be available throughout, and visitors are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy in Pollyanna’s gardens.
