Ilkeston Jobs Fair

Derby College Group (DCG) has teamed up with Job Centre Plus to organise a jobs fair at Ilkeston Community College on Tuesday October 29 between 10am and 2pm.

Information will be available about hundreds of job opportunities in a wide range of industries from Engineering and Manufacturing to Travel and Care.

Employers attending the event will include East Midlands Airport, Buildbase, UPS, Bluebird Care, Progress Care, Trentbarton, Derbyshire Police, Marriott Hotels and Kuehne + Nagel.

They will be joined by several recruitment agencies with vacancies at local businesses and by organisations with volunteering opportunities to help people enhance their CVs.

DCG is also offering people one-day taster courses in the coming weeks which highlight the different options available to boost job prospects.

Information will be available about English and maths classes in Ilkeston and Derby; sales and customer service training; construction, transport and logistics skills development; teaching assistant qualifications and pathways available to progress onto university in professions such as nursing and social work.

There will also be support with managing mental health and employability skills which is particularly aimed at helping people who are looking for their first job or returning to the workplace.

Ilkeston Community College is in the town centre in Pimlico which is the site of the former Magistrates Court.

There is plenty of carparking nearby and Trent Barton are also offering half price zigzag tickets for travel to and from Ilkeston on the day between 9am and 3pm across its bus network.

Executive Head of The Community College Liza-Jo Guyatt said: “Both the College and Job Centre Plus have extensive links with a number of employers who are keen to match local people with local jobs.

“The event is free to attend and is therefore the ideal opportunity for people to get a wealth of information under one roof about a wide range of job and training opportunities.

“We are particularly mindful that people who perhaps have not had a job for a long time due to their personal circumstances or are looking for a career change may require additional support.

“Our role as a community college in the heart of Ilkeston is to support them with updating their skills and re-building their confidence to face the new challenges ahead.”
