World War 1 first for museum and art gallery

Paintings by a soldier who died in World War 1 are to be exhibited for the first time at Buxton Museum and Art Gallery.

Lieutenant Douglas Marshall Rigby, who grew up in Buxton, was killed in the Great War, 100 years ago.  

Lt Rigby’s artworks will be on display at the museum and art gallery in Terrace Road from 15 September until 10 November.

These include watercolours of northern landscapes, humorous caricatures and pencil drawings.  

BIG STORIES, LITTLE VILLAGE: FIRST LITERARY FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN REPTON

Repton Village is to rediscover and celebrate its literary roots in a new 3 day programme of literature and events from 26th October - 28th October 2018.

Repton Literary Festival is the first of a new annual festival - telling stories, inspiring a new generation of writers, bringing engaging speakers to this Derbyshire village.

Long recognised for its accomplished alumni: Repton is author to great words, thoughts and deeds, burying kings, educating performers and growing sporting heroes.

Quarry firm Longcliffe takes the drama out of Theatre Company’s dilemma

One corner of quarry firm Longcliffe’s Peak District operation is now home to a bit of darkest Peru after the company came to the rescue when Buxton International Festival needed space to store its stage props.

Peruvian flags from the 2018 production of Alzira, set in the South American country, chairs and tables, scenery and other theatre equipment which can be recycled now have a home in a secure container at Longcliffe’s Brassington site.

Graduating Students Become Part of the Furniture at Déda

Students who have graduated from the University of Derby BA Hons Dance degree – based at regional dance house Déda in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter - have been honoured with a seat plaque at the venue’s theatre.

The Dance degree was launched by the University and Déda in September 2014 and is the only one in the country to be based at a dance house with access to work experience at this and other arts partners’ venues.

By popular demand, The Derby Conference Centre is once again offering weddings as part of their event services. In order to keep pace with this demand, the Centre has announced the arrival of a new Wedding & Events Coordinator, Jessica Wood.
