Live Entertainment Adds To Festive Cheer in St Peters Quarter

The busy streets of Derby’s St Peters Quarter will be filled with music, dance and entertainment on what is set to be the busiest shopping Saturdays in the run up to Christmas – thanks to a special programme devised by St Peters Quarter Business Improvement District (BID).

On December 14 and 21, acts including Derby Concert Band, Nottingham Tuneless Choir, singer Rebecca Jayne, UC Dance and La Di Dah will perform on the SPQ Live stage at St Peter’s Cross between 11am and 3pm.

There will also be roaming street entertainment by magicians, balloon modellers, hula hoop performers and stilt walkers.

Meanwhile businesses across St Peters Quarter are taking part in the ‘Derby Christmas: Past ‘Presents’ and Future’ theme with individual window displays that will create a link between the Market Place and The Spot which will feature a futuristic Christmas tree.

St Peters Quarter BID has also produced a children’s pack which will be available to pick up from various locations within the area and has also been sent out to children in school book bags.

The pack includes various children’s activities and a template ‘Letter to Santa’. Children will be able to post their letters at special St Peters Quarter BID boxes in businesses around the BID area.

Helen Wathall, chair of St Peters Quarter Board, said: “The streets around St Peters Quarter are always packed with visitors in the run up to Christmas so our aim is to add to the festive atmosphere with a vibrant and varied entertainment programme.

“We hope that this and the opportunity to post a letter to Santa will encourage everyone to spend more time in the area and rediscover many of the shops and varied places to eat and drink that make St Peters Quarter such a great destination for all the family to enjoy – particularly at this special time of year.”

Singer Rebecca Jayne added: "I feel very privileged to be able to perform music as a career, especially at such a magical time of the year where people come together. I am therefore very excited to have this fantastic opportunity to perform for the people of Derby this Christmas."
