Local Charity Promote Stress Relief

A local support group have launched a poetry competition, and are opening it out to non-members in a bid to help in these stressful times.

The Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Tinnitus Support Group have been using poetry workshops to act as a distraction from their health problems. Last year, the group published their own poetry book called “Distraction”, the proceeds going towards supporting the group’s activities.

While they are unable to run the workshops due to the Coronavirus, they have decided to run a poetry competition. The overall aim is to help members to forget current worries for a while and increase wellbeing through appreciating the natural world which is thriving around us.

Founder member and Secretary, Audrey Carlin, said:

“I have found writing poems to be a great help to me in managing my Tinnitus. I know that others who are feeling stressed or overwhelmed at the moment will be able to find solace in it too. Anyone is welcome to enter our competition and we really hope that it brings a few hours of tranquility into their lives.”

The theme of the competition is Spring Sounds. Poems of any style or length are invited before the closing date of 20th June. The cost to enter is £2.50 per poem. Send a cheque with your entry, payable to Chesterfield Tinnitus Support. Please put your name, address and email address on a separate sheet and attach it to the poem with a paper clip or staple. Post it to 34 Glumangate, Chesterfield, S40 1TX.

A small prize will be awarded to the winning poem, and the rest of the proceeds will support the charity’s future work.
