The Mayor of Matlock Cllr Brian Smith presented the award for the Matlock Photographer of the Year to Peter Keeble at the Annual Town Meeting on Monday 8th May.

Matlock Photographer of the Year was introduced in 2011 by Matlock Town Council and invites residents and visitors to submit photographs on a theme chosen by Councillors each year.

The aim of the competition is to encourage everyone to find the treasures around Matlock and themes have ranged from ‘My Favourite View’, to ‘Celebration’ ‘Light’ and ‘Remembrance’.

This year the winning photograph was from Peter Keeble with a photograph capturing the silken light at Lumsdale Waterfall which is familiar to many of us as one of the iconic images of the area.

Cllr Smith said:

‘I do offer my warmest congratulations to Peter who I know is a keen photographer, it is  always a pleasure to be involved in the Matlock Photographer of The Year competition because it gives us a view on how other people view a place we love so much.  I speak on behalf of the whole Council when I thank everyone who takes the time to enter and show off our wonderful town.’

The theme for the 2017 competition will be announced shortly and Matlock Town Council welcomes entries from residents and visitors alike.
