New Premier Steak House to open at The Old Bell Hotel

An area of the Bell Hotel which has not been open to the Public for over thirty years is set to reopen on February 9th. The Belfry Bar which was once the haunt of Derby County footballers and up and coming millionaires referred to as "tuppence ha'penny millionaires" has been restored and will reopen as The Belfry Steak House serving a huge selection of aged steaks.

Bell Hotel owner Paul Hurst said, “We are absolutely delighted to be reopening the Belfry and that it is to be a high end steak house to complement our other food offerings here at the Old Bell. It has been great seeing the restoration progress and seeing the room come back to life once more. Although for many of us we have seen the Old Bell as a bar and nightclub, it has spent the majority of its life (over 300 years) being known for great ales, fine food and accommodation and we are putting it back to its roots.”

The Ground floor of The Old Bell opened in July 2015 following a £1,300,000 restoration and houses its main Tavern Bar, Tudor Bar, Grand Regency Ballroom and award winning fine dining Restaurant Zest.

The opening of the Belfry will also see its Historic Jacobean staircase revealed which will lead up to the new steak house.

Heading up the new steak house is Head Chef Chris Marshall. Chris found a passion for cooking whilst training in a Michelin listed restaurant in Kent 15 years ago and since then has gone on to work in AA's Welsh restaurant of the year and run kitchens all across the Alps.

His food style blends classic British and European with a modern twist and tries to bring an element of nostalgia to the plate - yet also keeps the presentation contemporary and fun.

Chris insists the star of the Restaurant is the Josper Charcoal oven which is imported from Spain and the chosen toy of many Michelin restaurants and high end steak houses. Chris admits to being smitten with his new toy.

The Belfry is also giving its social media followers the opportunity to dine for free offering 30 places on its pre-launch night.

The Bell Hotel’s boutique bedrooms are set to open in 2018, and after a hiatus of nearly 100 years, it will become a Hotel welcoming guests once more.

Paul Commented “Sadler Gate continues to go from strength to strength and it’s great to be investing again in the Cathedral Quarter - voted best city centre location in the Great British High Street Awards”.
