Open Call: Middle Bound

06 December 2017

WORKSHOP DATES
5th–9th February 2018

EXHIBITION DATES
17th February–11th March 2018

We are looking for people to apply to Middle Bound, a workshop and exhibition exploring the social fabric at the heart of England. We will look into the communities and stories from The Midlands, both past and present.

The workshop will explore questions like:
• What are the communities that make The Midlands what it is today, and how do they relate to each other?
• What are the stories we tell?
• How does ethnicity and heritage affect attitudes?

The workshop will function like an open studio, made accessible to everybody, where artistic and creative work can be viewed as it happens. Intended to foster creativity and encourage experimentation in an atmosphere of cultural exchange, conversation and freedom of expression with the goal of developing, conceptualising and building an exhibition that will be opening on the 17th February until 11th March at the QUAD Gallery.

Under the direction of Patrick Waterhouse and Tim Wan, with the support of Mauro Bedoni, selected participants from all backgrounds, ethnicities and interests, meet for a week to investigate communities, places and things in Derby and The Midlands across the fields of writing, photography, video, illustration, visual communication and art & design.

The workshop and the exhibition are organised by QUAD with the support of the University of Derby.
