Seeta Patel Brings Not Today's Yesterday to Déda

Award-winning Bharatanatyam dance artist Seeta Patel returns to Derby with stunning political performance Not Today’s Yesterday.

Déda are proud to launch their 2019 autumn season with a new production by BBC Young Dancer judge and Derby favourite Seeta Patel.

Created in collaboration with acclaimed Australian choreographer Lima Limosani, Not Today’s Yesterday offers audiences a chance to engage in the most important geo-political conversation of the decade.

Inspiration for the piece stems from the creators’ concerns that revisionist and airbrushing histories have become a central issue of tension throughout the world, particularly Western democracies.

Blending techniques from South Asian dance style Bharatanatyam, contemporary dance and theatre, Not Todays Yesterday is a poetic narrative that has the beauty and disquiet of a Grimm's fairy-tale.

Following on from Seeta’s last visit to Déda, Derby with Sigma, an impressive combination of Bharatanatyam and juggling, created with world-renowned circus company Gandini Juggling, she continues to astound audiences with her creativity and eclectic skillset.

Winner of Best Dance of Adelaide Fringe 2018 and Peace Foundation Award 2018, Not Todays Yesterday is a one-woman show which subversively focuses on the topic of whitewashing, going against it and turning it on its head.

Not Today’s Yesterday will take place at Déda, 19 Chapel Street, Derby DE1 3GU at 7.30pm on Thursday 26 September. Tickets are £12 (£10 concession). Recommended for ages 12+. Join the artist and Déda’s producer Phil Hargreaves for a post-show Q&A discussion.
