Sing along with Buxton Fringe!

Buxton Fringe is inviting everyone to celebrate the opening of entries to the 2020 Fringe with a festive Village Carols sing-along.

The exciting Christmas Party, hosted by Buxton’s Green Man Gallery, will take place on Saturday December 7th from 7 to 9.30pm and offer the chance to sing traditional Derbyshire Village Carols as well as to mingle and enjoy a drink. Wine and light refreshments will be provided with all donations going to the Fringe.

On the same day, upstairs in the Workshop Room of the Green Man Gallery, there will also be a free Derbyshire Village Carols Workshop from 2.30-4.30pm led by Kaleidoscope Choir’s Carol Bowns. Among the carols will be Down in Yon Forest collected by Vaughan Williams in Castleton and While Shepherds Watched (using the Methodist hymn tune Cranbrook - though most identify the tune with a certain Ilkley anthem). The Fringe is grateful to Dr Ian Russell who published The Derbyshire Book of Village Carols.

Both events are free and everyone is welcome. Those unable to attend the afternoon session can still join the party and singing is optional!

Stephen Walker, acting chair of the Buxton Festival Fringe says: “Buxton Fringe's Derbyshire Village Carols sing-along has become an established highlight and a great way to kick off Christmas festivities. It marks the opening of entries to Fringe 2020 so also allows us to cast our minds forwards to the brighter days of July and the excitement of another Fringe."

The party celebrates the December 1st opening of entries for next year’s Fringe (July 1-19). Party-goers will have a chance to meet members of the Fringe team and learn how to get involved or become a Fringe Friend.
