St John Street Gallery - A Feast for Summer

St John Street Gallery - A Feast for Summer

You are invited to the opening of this colourful and fun exhibition by three of our favourite artist. Preview: Friday June 18th from 5-8pm. The exhibition will run From June 18th until July 17th 2021.

Catriona Hall's paintings are easily recognisable due to the distinctive colouring and stylising of her subjects. She paints in acrylic on board at her studio overlooking the High Peak moors and is inspired by the wildlife, often in the area surrounding her studio. They conform to a primitive norm of big bodies with insignificant legs. Her subjects tend to face left and she seldom paints whiskers.

Ingrid Karlsson is a versatile mixed media artist and a talented storyteller through her artwork, that combines the magical scenery and ever-changing seasonal colours around her studio in Upper Dovedale. Her work encapsulates rich, colourful textures developed from recycled paper-based materials, or stitched in fabric and fibre. Her techniques include collage, mono-printing and crystalline water colour, enhancing the work with a luminous quality. The result is a three dimensional, visual representation attempting to evoke thought.

Janet Mayled uses acrylics, watercolour and dye to create bold and vivid images; including media such as papers and fabric to add depth and texture. Her subject matter includes landscapes, both rural and urban scenes, enjoying the juxtaposition of new and old, natural and synthetic, still life and figurative. Pattern is important in her work, and she is inspired by observations of everyday activities, not always featuring a figure but leaving a mark, or a collection of objects which give clues to the owner.
