Start your Christmas celebrations with Hayfield Singers!

Get your Christmas off to a harmonious start by enjoying a mix of traditional and modern seasonal music performed by Hayfield Singers at St Matthew’s Church, Hayfield on Sunday 8th December at 7.30pm.

This year the Choir’s annual Christmas concert offers a wide variety of arrangements to suit all tastes and which is certain to leave its audience in the mood for the festive season ahead.

Musical Director, Simon Mercer, said: “This is an engaging mix of traditional, modern and occasionally pithy seasonal music by composers spanning the 18th to 21st centuries.

“JS Bach's Motet Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied combines passion and pyrotechnics in equal measure with spectacular writing for two competing choirs. Pergolesi's Magnificat is light and frothy by comparison with bright melodies and fizzing rhythms but no less engaging for all that. There shall a star come out of Jacob by Mendelssohn is full of tuneful Advent promise ending with a well loved hymn.

“We will also singing carols by Warlock, Holst, Wilberg and Taverner which are complemented by two newer settings from Martin Hindmarsh. Martin lectured in the Music Department at Sheffield University having studied composition with John Joubert; amongst other things he now sings at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court and will be joining us for our concert. Eager anticipation is in the air!”

Tickets for the concert are available in advance from choir members or Hayfield News, Market Street, at £10 for an unrestricted view. Restricted-view tickets at £8, plus any unsold £10 tickets, will be available on the night from 7pm.
