Novellas have established a firm place in literary history, and this shorter form of story remains popular with readers. However, writing in the form is entirely different to any other – so what do you do to create a great tale in the form? This session will explore the structure and style of the novella, helping you approach the medium in the right way as a writer, with practical advice and discussions throughout.

LIT AT LUNCH 1 – TENSE AND PERSPECTIVE
Wednesday 14th October, 12:30pm-1:30pm


Tense and perspective are two of the absolute fundamentals of storytelling, dictating what viewpoint we see the story from and whether the story takes place in the past or the present. But how do you know you’ve got it right for your story? This workshop will explore the impact of your choices on tense and perspective and how they can affect story with a range of advice, discussions and exercises.

WRITING SCIENCE-FICTION
Monday 19th October, 6:30pm-8:00pm


Science-fiction remains a favourite genre with many readers, and presents exciting opportunities for writers – as well as unique challenges. This workshop will look at the definitions and history of science-fiction, what subgenres exist and how we define them, as well as getting you to develop your own science-fiction world and story in our closing exercise!
