PUMPKIN CARVING

Location: Mill Yard in the Large Marquee

Cost: £3 per pumpkin

Time: 11am-3pm

Get ready for Halloween by taking part in a pumpkin carving workshop at the mill.

Come along and carve your very own pumpkin jack-o-lantern for Halloween.

Enter our competition and receive a prize and maybe you and your pumpkin will be featured on our website.

ARKWRIGHT SPINSTERS

Location: Gothic Warehouse

FREE ENTRY

The Arkwright Spinsters will be demonstrating spinning and fibre crafting and sharing their skills. Bring your own spinning wheel and learn to spin or learn with group equipment by prior arrangement.

ARKWRIGHT SOCIETY OFF-SITE VISIT

WHITE PEAK DISTILLERY

Time: 1:45pm arrival at the venue.Tour will start at 2pm

Location: Matlock Road Ambergate Derbyshire DE56 2HE

Cost: £15 per person

White Peak Distillery were inspired by Shining Cliff’s woodland and hedgerows. The business is located in Ambergate and they have now got thirteen carefully selected botanicals distilled to create a smooth, and perfectly balanced Derbyshire dry gin.  White Peak Distillery are hosting an exclusive tour for the Arkwright Society which will last for approximately 2hrs. Guests will be introduced to the Head Distiller and Founder Max Vaughan, enjoy an extended behind the scenes tour of the Still House and Dunnage and finish with a gin tasting in the Tasting Room.

ARKWRIGHT SOCIETY TALK: Sutton Scarsdale and the Arkwright’s

Location: Gothic Warehouse (ground floor)

Time: 7pm (refreshments) 7:30pm (talk begins)

Speaker: Paul Halksworth

Sutton Scarsdale estate was bought by the Richard Arkwright Jnr of Willersley Castle in 1824 for his son Robert, who had married Frances Crawford Kemble of the famous Newcastle acting family. Frances became the centre of a social circle which included the 6th Duke of Devonshire. Paul Halksworth discusses the social life of Robert and Frances, as well as successive inheritors of the estate. The last owner of the Sutton Scarsdale estate, William Arkwright, sold it in 1919, the Hall being reduced to a roofless shell. The Hall, saved from total destruction by Sir Osbert Sitwell, is now owned by English Heritage.

FAMILY FUN WEEKEND: HALLOWEEN GHOSTS AND GHOULS

Time: 10am-4pm

Location: Cromford Mills, Mill Yard

Cost: FREE ENTRY (There is a small charge for some activities)

Join us for a weekend of all things spooky. From witches and wizards to ghosts and ghouls, dust off your broomstick and join in the fun!

Fancy Dress Competition - Come dressed as a spooky character and win a prize.

Childrens Activities - Make something spooky for Halloween, Drop in anytime. Charges apply.

Halloween Trail - Follow the spooky trail around the mill.

Owls and Parrots - Woodies Wings will be here again! Meet a selection of gorgeous owls and colourful, entertaining parrots.

DISCOVERY DAYS: Matlock Bath Photography Walk

Time:1.30pm - 3.30pm

Location: Meet in the Station Car Park, DE4 5JA (at the far end, near the Coach Park).

Only ever seen Matlock Bath as you drive through it? This is your chance to go beyond the A6 and see some of the hidden gems of this most photogenic little town. There are beautiful landscapes, high viewpoints and lots of interesting buildings. Bring your own camera, wear sturdy shoes or boots as there is one fairly steep climb.

Bring your camera and join photographer Helen Chester LRPS on a guided walk around Cromford. Visit Cromford Mills, St Mary’s Church, the canal wharf and the village as your guide takes you off the beaten track and offers advice on getting the best shots. During the walk there will be opportunities for landscape photography and architectural shots of historic buildings. There will also be the opportunity to look inside some of the buildings.
