What's On at St John Street Gallery in May and June

2nd May: John Connolly workshop: Trees, Woodlands and  Forests

Students will explore the use of Mixed media and Acrylic paints on both Paper and Canvas. We will look at Trees and Woodland in a variety of seasons. We will work fairly loosely flicking and pouring paint to get interesting effects. Students will leave the course with completed paintings including a Bluebell painting which seem to be very popular at the moment.

5th May: Preview of Anna Thomas Exhibition “Songs from the Land”

‘Songs from the Land’ is a collection of paintings inspired directly by the sights and sounds of life in rural Britain. The paintings tell a story of the fields, the trees and the animals which fill the hedgerows and the skies.

The exhibition will be on from 5th to 20th May.

23rd & 24th May: Wendy Darker workshop: Painting Highland Cows

Highland cows with thick painted textures in acrylic. A one and a half day workshop painting these two highland beasties. Starting at 1:00pm on the first day and 9:00am – 4:00pm on the second day. Suitable for all abilities. The cost is £110 includes all materials, refreshments and lunch on day 2. 26th May: Preview of Colin Halliday Exhibition "A fresh view on the Landscape "

"A fresh view on the Landscape " is an exciting and vibrant collection of work in his typical style using oil and palette knife. It will showcase some of Colin's very latest work, with many new pieces never shown before.

The exhibition will be on from 26th May to 10th June.

6th June: Sue Prince Folk Art workshop:

Introduction to Egg Tempera Folk Art Painting: Folk art is a way to record significant events in our life. On this one day introduction to Swedish style egg tempera folk art, you will learn all the techniques from grinding pigment and making your own paint to using templates and painting your own texts. You will complete a personal ‘sampler’ and be ready to start a larger piece at the next course.
