RDS Global Appoints First Apprentice From Technology Academy

A Derby College IT student involved in the organisation’s innovative Employer Academy programme has secured an apprenticeship with the company that provided him and others with valuable work experience as part of their study programme.

Brandon Bariana (19) joined the RDS Global Technology Academy earlier this year – spending 15 weeks learning about the different career opportunities available in the IT Industry.

 All eight students on the Academy were invited to apply for apprenticeships at the end of their study programme and Brandon was successful.

Women’s Stories Inspire Derby College Students To Create New Exhibition at Sudbury Hall

Students at Derby College’s Joseph Wright Centre have created an exhibition at Sudbury Hall to celebrate the lives and achievements of women associated with the 17th century National Trust country house.

Art & Design, Games Development and Music students have created a number of different pieces from paintings and sculptures to audio and 3D animations which have been placed around the hall for visitors to explore.

Full line up for extended 12th Derby Folk Festival

The complete line-up for Derby Folk festival is now confirmed, featuring main and headlining artists.

This will be the 12th year that the festival will be held right in the centre of Derby, and it has become embedded in the City's events calendar. Derby Folk Festival is jointly produced by Derby City Council’s Derby LIVE and Derbyshire-based PR Promotions.

Get Funded is an event aimed at artists, creatives and collectives sharing skills, advice and tips on getting funding. It will be in the Box at QUAD on the 19th of July 1-4pm, there will be a series of speakers giving advice on getting funding/fundraising from different perspectives.

Trapped tour is coming to Buxton

TRAPPED is a thrilling physical theatre and film work performed by the fast-rising EXPERIENTIAL. The piece is inspired by events surrounding the monumental collapse of the San Jose Mine, Chile in 2010. The world watched as 33 miners, trapped underground for 69 terrifying days, were winched to safety. Incredibly, they all survived. In underground tunnelsExperiential combine intense physical theatre, a potent atmosphere and clever lighting to create a world which is horrifying in its darkness but which offers hope and light for the future.

Derby’s Markeaton Park has been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme as one of the very best parks in the world. Markeaton Park joins five other green spaces awarded recognition in Derby.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities.

Share Your Dance Memories For History Project

Local people are being asked to share their memories and stories of dance in the city since the 1950s for a major exhibition which will be staged later this year.

‘Derby Dancing’ has been launched thanks to a £10,000 National Lottery grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

The project is being led by Déda, the Derby-based creative centre for dance, contemporary circus and outdoor performance in Chapel Street, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
