MEMBER: Beth's Poetry Trail

Beth's Poetry Trail can be found in the town of Belper, Derbyshire, as a permanent memorial to Beth Fender who founded the town's two poetry groups.

A poem - or extract of a poem – is installed at 20 sites around the town. Each poem has been interpreted in a manner appropriate to the poem and the setting, as far as possible. Local Derbyshire stone, wood, craftspeople and artists have all been used!

Derbyshire poets represented include: Derbyshire's first Poet Laureate Cathy Grindrod and Stuart Mills.

A Trail leaflet which includes a Belper map can be picked up (free) at the North Mill visitors centre or library in Belper. Talks are given to local groups about the setting up of the trail and guided walks around the poetry are offered several times a year. A newly published (May 2017) anthology of Beth Fender's poetry 'Chain of Memories' and Jean Sealey's book 'Beth & Belper, Tale of a Trail' can be purchased through the web-site or borrowed from any Derbyshire library.
