The Melting Shop is a theatre company specialising in new writing. We formed in Sheffield in 2013 but now work mostly from West Studios at Chesterfield College. Over the last four and a half years we have received commissions from two large museums and, by July 2018, we will have completed performances in heritage sector venues and taken new plays on three funded tours.
It is important to us to take new plays to rural, community and inner city venues playing to what are traditionally regarded as hard to reach audiences.
We also play to regional theatres when the opportunity arises.
Another principle we hold is to, whenever possible, employ actors and creatives who are based in Yorkshire and East Midlands a group which is underrepresented in our "Londoncentric" industry.
