Author Event - Maggie O'Farrell

Derbyshire Libraries & Libraries Connected are delighted to host Maggie O’Farrell!

About this Event

On Thursday 15th of April, 7pm BST, Derbyshire Libraries & Libraries Connected are delighted to host Maggie O’Farrell in conversation about her latest Women’s Prize winning novel Hamnet, along with insights into her writing and previously published works.

Maggie’s latest award winning novel Hamnet captures a Jacobean England haunted by a plague that tragically kills Hamnet, the only son of William Shakespeare. In reimagining the complex relationship between Hamnet’s parents as the 11-year-old’s condition worsens, O’Farrell captures one of the greatest agonies imaginable to a parent. Women’s Prize judge Martha Lane Fox said of the novel, “It expresses something profound about the human experience that seems both extraordinarily current and at the same time, enduring.”

This event is as part of the BBC Novels That Shaped Our World libraries programme, supported by Arts Council England. It will be hosted by Simon Savidge.

Running time: 60 minutes | 7pm BST | 8pm CEST | 11am PDT | 2pm EDT
