Derby Book Festival appeal for children’s books

Derby Book Festival and Marketing Derby are appealing to local residents to have a rummage for any children’s books that are no longer needed and are lurking in cupboards at home.  These will be provided to less fortunate children in the city who may not have books at home.  The appeal is launched to coincide with this year’s Festival, which will be held from 19 – 27 May which Marketing Derby supports each year as do many of its Bondholders.

Spital Arts Spectacular Is Back

The great Spital Arts Spectacular returns bigger and better than ever on Friday June 9th and Saturday June 10th.. Come along and see the wonderful talents of our local artists , many of whom are Spital residents.

We have photographers, a calligrapher, stained glass makers, craft workers , artists, and many others.

We also have the marvellous Ukrainian sisters and their amazing digital art work  so come along and see what they have produced.

Have Your Say in the Pop Star of the Century

The audience votes who becomes Pop Star of the Century in a fun music show at Buxton Fringe Festival presented by the Peak District based Charnley Bruvvers, Alan and Chris.

Competing will be the likes of Elvis, Cliff, Agnetha from Abba, Amy, John Lennon and more and the audience will also be invited to sing along on the choruses of timeless songs.

Producer Alan says: "It going to be a great night and it greatly involves audience participation. It's going to be fascinating to see which singer prevails on the night as the Pop Star of the Century."

Pulling out all the stops at this year’s Buxton Fringe!

Buxton Fringe is welcoming a new-found confidence from its entrants with around 190 exciting events featured in this year’s bumper printed programme.

Comedy and Music are much bigger categories than last year but Theatre also makes up a substantial part of the programme and there are entries for every genre including Spoken Word, Visual Arts, Dance, Children’s Events, Film, Street Theatre and more with many events that are free.

Derbyshire Producers Invited To Exhibit At Chatsworth Country Fair

Producers, artisans and craftspeople based in Derbyshire are invited to showcase, promote and sell their products to thousands of visitors at Chatsworth Country Fair this summer.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, in partnership with Derbyshire County Council, is inviting local producers to apply for a place in the ‘Derbyshire Makers’ Marketplace’ at one of England’s most spectacular annual outdoor celebrations.

The Old Lock Up Gallery Open Event

This year already there have been lots of exciting events at The Old Lock Up Gallery, including exhibiting artists, sales of their work and the beautiful shows. And there’s so much still to unfold here at the gallery this year.

At the moment  there is the 2nd artist in residence of 2023 - Tansy Lee Moir - she’s spent almost a week working in the space and it’s so good to see her using the opportunity to it’s fullest. Tansy’s beautiful treescapes will be featured in the next 2 shows: The first of which is our annual Open - OPEN 2023.

Colourful Event Celebrates Sari Fashion

A colourful evening of fashion, entertainment and food, inspired by the Sari – a traditional outfit worn by women in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal -  will be held on Friday May 26 at Slice of India in Mansfield Road, Derby.

The evening event (6.30pm to 9.30pm) has been organised by Derby’s South Asian arts organisation, Surtal Arts, as a belated finale event for last Autumn’s Derby Season of Light – a popular family festival of activities, events and performances to celebrate the city and county’s diversity and creativity.
