Derbyshire companies mark British Science Week by celebrating work with global impact

CUTTING edge science is happening all around us here in Derbyshire. To mark British Science Week which runs until March 19, we speak to scientists working in companies right on our doorstep whose work is having an impact all over the world.

New Derbyshire restaurant Fork & Furrow is proving a big hit with diners from around the county

THE manager of one of Derbyshire’s newest restaurants wants his establishment to become the go-to place for elevated British cuisine in the county.

And Tom Shelbourn – who has previously worked in a five-star hotel that boasts two AA Rosettes and a Michelin star – wants the Fork & Furrow drinks menu to be talked about just as much as the food, with an eclectic mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic options plus bespoke cocktails created by mixologists specifically for the countryside eatery.

PEAK DISTRICT, DERBYSHIRE AND DERBY TOURISM ORGANISATIONS RECEIVE NEW NATIONAL ACCREDITATION

The two organisations responsible for leading on the promotion, marketing and development of the visitor economy in the Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby have formed a partnership that has been recognised by VisitEngland in a government programme to establish a new structure for the tourism industry.

Visit Peak District & Derbyshire and Visit Derby have come together as Visit Peak District, Derbyshire and Derby to receive official Local Visitor Economy Partnership (LVEP) status from VisitEngland.

Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink will return for this year’s Festive Derby

We may only just be embarking on spring, but plans for the 2023 Festive Derby celebrations are well underway. Derby City Council and the Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) are delighted to announce that the city’s popular ice rink will return this Christmas – and tickets are on sale now.

The undercover ice rink was a popular destination for all ages during the 2022 festive season, with 12,600 people donning their skates, around half of them children. The Cathedral Quarter Ice Rink will be back on the Market Place from 2 December until New Year’s Eve.

Oberoi Foundation Marks International Women’s Month With Charity Support

A community-based organisation in the West Midlands, which supports women who have experienced domestic abuse, honour-based violence and forced marriage, has received vital funding from a charitable foundation set up by Derby-based entrepreneur Kavita Oberoi OBE.

The Oberoi Foundation has marked International Women’s Month in March by awarding a grant to The Circle, a global feminist organisation which supports frontline grassroots organisations in the UK and some of the world’s most vulnerable countries to tackle gender-based violence.
