Sweet taste of success for Croots Farm Shop in national food awards

Popular Derbyshire farm shop Croots has received national recognition for two of its home-made products after being named a finalist in two categories of the Great British Food Awards 2017.

Two years ago, the farm shop won top bake for its Derbyshire Bakewell Tart in the awards run by Great British Food magazine. And last year its home-made Derbyshire Pasty was highly commended in the same awards.

Sinfonia Viva Secures Further Funding To Touch More People’s Lives

Sinfonia Viva, the East Midlands’ only professional orchestra which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, has been confirmed as a National Portfolio Organisation by Arts Council England and its funding secured for a further four years starting April 2018.

The Derby-based Orchestra has been awarded £192,107 a year for the next four years (2018 to 2022) which is a total of £768,428.

HUUB Meets Hurricane Hannah’s Training Kit Needs

Triathlon kit designers HUUB have come to the aid of Paralympian athlete Hannah Cockroft MBE to provide training kit to match her exact requirements.

‘Hurricane Hannah’ announced her need for a kit sponsor on her return from the Rio 2016 Paralympics where she won three Gold medals in the T34 100m, 400m and 800m adding to her double Gold medal tally at London 2012.

She has since been working with HUUB on her own requirements for aerodynamic kit to continue her training – particularly in the run up to the World Para Athletics Championships in London (July 14.23).

Artists Need Homes! Applications Open for 2017 Buxton Art Trail

The popular Buxton Art Trail is returning this July with organisers hoping for plenty of applications from artists and venues before the closing date of April 30th 2017.

The popular Buxton Art Trail will take place during the middle weekend of the Buxton Festival Fringe on Saturday July 15 and Sunday July 16 with painters, printmakers, illustrators, photographers and craftspeople, both professional and amateur, exhibiting in their homes and studios as well as in the homes and business premises of people who are generous enough to offer spaces.

New Head Chef Joins Engine Shed Restaurant

Derby College has appointed Mark Hadfield as Head Chef of commercial operations at the Engine Shed restaurant at the Roundhouse campus in Pride Park.

Mark learnt his trade at Wilmorton College, which is now part of Derby College, and has since worked in a wide range of fine dining restaurants.

MS Show Garden Wins Silver Merit

Horticulture staff and students at Derby College have won an award for the second year running at the prestigious BBC Gardeners World Live show at the NEC.

The team, based at the College’s Broomfield Hall land-based campus, again teamed up with the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Derby and District Group to design and build an entry for BBC Gardener’s World Live 2017 – following their resounding success in last year’s show.

The show celebrates its 50th anniversary - coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the formation of the Derby Branch of the MS Society.
