CQ Cinema Presents…

Four family films will be shown on a giant screen in Derby’s Market Place free of charge this Autumn thanks to a partnership between Derby Cathedral Quarter Business Improvement District (BID) and QUAD, supported by Derby City Council.

CQ Cinema Presents.. will show four different films on Wednesday’s during September and October with all screenings free to attend.

Some of the films also celebrate key cultural events happening in the Cathedral Quarter over the next few months. The screenings are:

Wednesday September 4: Lego Movie 2 (U) – celebrating the A World of LEGO® Awaits at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Wednesday September 18: Labyrinth (U)

Wednesday September 25: Close Encounters of the Third Kind (PG) highlighting the ‘Space, Moon & Tides’ theme of this year’s Derby Festé (Friday September 27 and Saturday September 28)

Wednesday October 2: Aladdin (2019) (U).

All the films will start shortly after sunset (around 7.10pm but times differ for each screening) with further information on start times available on the Cathedral Quarter BID website www.derbycathedralquarter.co.uk and social media.

In support of the events, a number of Cathedral Quarter food and drink establishments are offering discounts for the evening on presentation of a CQ Cinema Presents… flyer. Visitors to the event are advised to bring their own seating or picnic blankets to sit on and are politely reminded that the Market Place is an alcohol-free zone.

Martin Langsdale is chair of the Cathedral Quarter board, which spearheads activities under the area’s BID status.

He said: “A key objective for the BID is to attract more people into the Cathedral Quarter and to improve the visitor experience.

“Watching a film outdoors is a great experience and CQ Cinema Presents… is designed to be something that the whole family can enjoy together as a special mid-week treat.”
