The Crooked Spire – a medieval murder-mystery musical – Stage Two

Ashgate Heritage Arts (AHA) has written a musical which is an adaptation of Chris Nickson’s book, “The Crooked Spire.”

In July, a Showcase was broadcast as part of Buxton Festival Fringe. After this project, AHA was awarded an Arts Council England grant to continue the development of the story.

Directed by Andrew Miller, with musical direction by Harry Style, a cast of professional actors will take the story of John Carpenter a step further. Murder and intrigue surround the building of Chesterfield’s iconic spire. It’s straight and true for the moment…

Award-winning writer Mary Hennessy (Autumn in Picardy, Sounds like the NHS, Argy Bargy) has written a script which brings the flavour and character of the story to life. The music and lyrics are by Martin Coslett (Ferguson’s Gang, The Perfect City) and Peter Gray (Aliens in 6F, Mr Boltin and the Temple of Doom.) Martin and Peter’s music and songs blend traditional folk melodies with contemporary harmonies and rhythms to set your feet tapping.

On 9 th December at 7:00pm AHA will broadcast the latest video of their medieval murder-mystery musical and on the 18 th an BSL sign interpreted version will be shown. Also, on the 18 th there will be a live Q&A session with the cast online immediately following the show.

And on the 8 th December the original Showcase that was shown at the Buxton Festival Fringe will be re-broadcast for those who missed it the first time.
