Dandelions Bereavement Support Expands To Help More People Cope With Grief

Wathall’s, Derby’s longest established independent funeral directors, have re-launched and expanded its unique Dandelions Bereavement Support programme to help more local people who have lost a loved one.

Dandelions Bereavement Support, run by a team of facilitators from Wathall’s, has several different strands to support people at times when they need it.

The four-week Dandelions Grief Journey support and education programme is held at various times throughout the year free of charge for members of the public focusing on the bereavement process and how to cope with life moving forward.

Furthermore, bespoke programmes can now be run for businesses, organisations and charities for their own staff and stakeholders in the workplace or an external venue nearby.

Everyone who attends Dandelions Grief Journey receives a free bereavement journal which has just been introduced and is a safe place for people to express memories, thoughts and feelings.  The journal is also available to buy from Wathall’s for £6.50.

Dandelions Bereavement Support groups meet regularly, are free to attend and bring people together to share time and experiences with others on a similar path.

Groups are free to attend and meet on the second and last Tuesday of every month between 1.30pm and 3.30pm at Derby Cathedral and on the first Wednesday of every month between 1.30pm and 3pm at the Cornerstone Café in Church Street, Ashbourne.

The groups have also sponsored a contemplation area in Poppy Wood and have installed a dandelion sculpture in Heritage Wood near Ashbourne to provide a quiet space for people to reflect on the beauty of life.

Wathall’s Managing director Helen Wathall MBE is the fifth generation of her family to run the company which has been established in Derby since 1858.

She explained: “Dandelions Bereavement Support is available to everyone and is unique in this area.

“The overall aim is to support people in a number of ways - whether they have lost a loved one recently or several years ago – and to help them overcome feelings of isolation, despair and loneliness.”
