Derby’s Mini Maker Faire goes ‘On The Road’ at The Eagle Market at intu Derby this Saturday

Photocall: Saturday 27 October, 10am-4pm
Over 40 makers will be at The Eagle Market at intu Derby on Saturday with making, crafting, building, tinkering and interactive stalls. The day will include makers of all different kinds, including: augmented reality, robotics, printing, origami, soldering, jewellery-making, electronics, puppetry and much more. In addition, some lucky people, who have pre-booked tickets, will be joining an animator from Aardman Animations to make a model of Feathers McGraw (the villainous penguin from Wallace and Gromit’s The Wrong Trousers).

The Eagle Market will be bursting with activity on Saturday 27 October as it hosts Derby Mini Maker Faire as it goes ‘On the Road’ for the very first time.

The market area will be full of making, crafting, building, tinkering and interactive stalls, from 10am till 4pm.

A family-friendly highlight of Derby Museums’ annual programme, this will be the seventh Derby Mini Maker Faire. This year it is going ‘On the Road’ for the first time while the Silk Mill is being redeveloped as Derby’s new Museum of Making. The event will bring together over 40 makers from across Derbyshire and beyond. Attractions and activities will include augmented reality, robotics, printing, origami, building, textile design, soldering, jewellery-making, electronics and even fighting unicorn robots!

We will also be joined by Aardman Animations, who will be running workshops for those who are lucky enough to have booked a place in advance! Participants will receive step-by-step instructions from an Aardman animator to make a Feathers McGraw model.

This year’s Derby Mini Maker Faire has been generously sponsored by Rolls-Royce, JCB, The JCB Academy and Jumping Clay.

Andrea Mercer, Head of Learning and Participation at Derby Museums said:

“Taking our Maker Faire out ‘On the Road’ as a pop up event is a first for us and we are grateful to Intu and Eagle Market for providing us with the space. Once again it promises to be an amazing experience for all the family – with many makers joining us again in the new location.

We are delighted to welcome outstanding both local makers, and those from further afield. The Derby Mini Maker Faire provides the perfect opportunity for makers of all sizes to showcase their work, and for visitors to explore and engage in hands-on experiences for learning and enjoyment.
