Derby College Hosts First Free Dementia Café

Derby College will hold its first free event on Monday June 12 for people living with dementia and their carers.

The Dementia Café will be held at the Engine Shed restaurant at the College’s Roundhouse campus in Pride Park between 2pm and 4pm.

Guests will be treated to tea and coffee and cakes made by the Catering and Hospitality students as well as mini beauty treatments by students from the campus’ Sensi salon.

Derby College Director of Funding Development Helen Stevenson explained that the event was the latest stage in the organisation’s work to become recognised as a Dementia Friendly College.

She said: “As members of the Derbyshire Dementia Action Alliance we now have three Dementia Champions who are trained by the Alzheimer’s Society.

“They are now sharing this knowledge with a wide range of staff and students under the Dementia Friends programme.

“We have up to 30 spaces available at the Dementia Café on Monday which will be an informal way for people living with the disorder and their carers to make new friends and enjoy a relaxed afternoon of refreshments and mini beauty treatments.”

Places must be pre-booked, please call Nicola on 07850 503192.
