Derby restaurant celebrates a decade of dining with donations to charity

A CITY restaurant which has been serving food from around the world to Derby diners for a decade celebrated its 10th anniversary by raising money for two good causes.

COSMO restaurant, based on London Road, held a birthday party for local dignitaries after reaching the landmark anniversary last month.

The profits of a charity raffle held on the night have been shared between Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, which has been the restaurant’s nominated charity for several years, and the good causes supported by new Mayor of Derby, Councillor Alan Graves.

Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Shine A Light extravaganza which will see stunning displays of light and sound return to Derbyshire for the third year running.

Providing fun and entertainment for the whole family, Shine A Light brings to life some of Derbyshire’s heritage and history of innovation in spectacular large-scale moving animations.

Celebrating 100 years of entertainment at the Winding Wheel Theatre

A series of events and activities are planned to celebrate a century of entertainment at the Winding Wheel Theatre in September.

On Sunday 10 September from 7pm there will be a Centenary Gala Concert to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the building opening. This will feature performances from nine different local theatre schools, performing arts groups and theatre companies, and will be compered by Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist impressionist Tony Rudd, with a special guest appearance from comedy legend Bernie Clifton who lives locally.

Charities join forces to Bring Colour Run to Derby

One of Derby's most popular charity events is returning to Markeaton Park after an extended break.

The Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity Colour Run is set to return to the park after three years with the local charities and businesses getting on board to support the colour-filled event.

The event, which will see runners follow a 5km route around Markeaton Park whilst being sprayed in a rainbow of coloured powder paint, takes place on Saturday 16 August from 11am - 2pm.

Derbyshire creative agency backs controversial ‘Maaate’ campaign aimed at tackling violence to women

An award-winning Derbyshire creative agency creating campaigns to incite positive change has backed an opinion-dividing ‘Maaate’ campaign aimed at tackling violence against women.

Anna Hutton and Claire MacDonald, sister founders of award-winning MacMartin – a company which creates behaviour change campaigns – said while they acknowledged the controversy of the ‘Maaate’ campaign, it would have been based on sound science and it was important to wait and see if it was successful.
