Eyam 350th Plague Commemoration: Plague Commemoration Service 30th August

Eyam 350th Plague Commemoration: Plague Commemoration Service 30th August

Join us at 2.30pm at Eyam Church, moving to the Delph for 3.00pm

The Bishop will be at the Plague service in August.

I am honoured to share in this important commemoration.  In a world where  ‘health’ can be synonymous with a concern for my own wellbeing, we need to  remember that ‘health’ includes a much bigger agenda – the wholeness of all  God’s children.  The Latin word salvus, from which we have our Gospel term  salvation, basically means ‘right health’.  The famous sacrifice of so many in  Eyam through the community discipline of containing the plague for the sake  of protecting those further afield is a sign of how Christian salvation operates:  there is no greater love than to lay down your life for others.  Such faith is the  seed of salvation – we give thanks to God for being heirs of this amazing act of  witness.
