Giant Balloons, a Mini Rave and Early Years’ Dance Show at Déda’s Family Arts Festival this November
This November sees the return of Déda’s annual family arts festival. The festival runs from Thursday 31 October until Sunday 2 November with a selection of shows and events perfect for grown-ups and younger ones alike.
Opening the festival is the venue’s brand new Dinky Disco for mini ravers. Taking place on Thursday 31 October from 2-4pm, the disco Halloween special will feature creepy crafts, face painting, apple bobbing and make your own goo! All ages are welcome and under 1s go free.
Arriving on Friday 1 November, Dizzy O’Dare takes to the stage with a fab, funny and outrageous performance: The Giant Balloon Show. High energy and endlessly entertaining, The Giant Balloon Show will have audiences in stitches and in awe simultaneously. Expect feverous balloon sculptures, high-energy comic performance and of course the all-important giant balloon! Take everything you know about balloons, add an award-winning entertainer and a vibrant 80’s soundtrack, and you get a highly entertaining show for the whole family. The performance is perfect for all ages 5+ and has proved a hit on tour, arriving at Déda on Friday 1 November with performances at 11am and 3pm.
On Saturday 2 November and Sunday 3 November, Second Hand Dance returns to Déda with a gentle performance for 4 months to 3 year olds. ‘Touch’ invites audiences to discover the power of dance in a beautifully crafted, playful experience that reaffirms the potency of touch and dance in the digital age. To accommodate the age range there are two separate shows: one for walkers and one for pre-walkers. The pre-walker show takes place at 10.30am on both dates and is extra gentle in nature, offering a quiet opportunity for children aged 4 months until walking. The walker performance takes place at 1.30pm on both dates and is perfect for older children and those who wish to attend alongside walking siblings.
Later in the month, audiences can enjoy a highly skilled performance from handstand acrobat Natalie Reckert. ‘Selfie with eggs’ is a feat of endurance as Reckert performs over half the show in a handstand against a background of electronic music. Suitable for ages 8+ the performance will take place on Saturday 30 November at 7.30pm. Audiences can also learn what it takes to perform a handstand in a bespoke workshop led by Natalie herself on Friday 29 November at 6.30pm.
Following the festival, Déda will continue their family events with Where Is Christmas? The festive performance, which runs from Friday 20 to Monday 23 December, mixes dance with quirky characters, enthralling movements and enchanting live music; transforming the good old cardboard box into a wonderland of curiosity on the road to discovering what Christmas can really be. Show times are 11am and 3pm with relaxed performances on Sunday 22 December and Monday 23 December at 11am.
