Great Drama at the Guildhall Theatre

Great Drama at the Guildhall Theatre

Derby LIVE is pleased to announce a host of brilliant drama shows that will be performed in the Guildhall Theatre this spring. With a variety of themes and stories, there is a show to suit every drama enthusiast in the next few months.

After a very successful run in 2016, Open Road Productions will be returning to Derby with The Same Sky – A Musical. A story of love, loss and reconciliation told with movingly beautiful songs. Set in the Nottinghamshire Coalfields against the backdrop of WW1, Billy, a poor miner, and Eileen, the pit owner’s daughter, are passionately in love when they are forced apart by the Great War. The Same Sky will be performed at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre between Thursday 2 – Saturday 4 March. Tickets are priced at £15.

European Art Company will be performing Chekhov’s Shorts - a hugely entertaining collection of classic one-act farces by Anton Chekhov, including The Evils of Tobacco, The Dimwit, The Bear, Swan Song and The Proposal. This is Chekhov as you’ve never seen him before – funny! Chekhov’s Shorts will be performed at Derby LIVE’s Guildhall Theatre on Tuesday 14 – Wednesday 15 March. Tickets are priced at £15 and concessions are available.

Reform Theatre Company’s Hopeless Romantics tells the story of Al: a singleton who has been unlucky in love. When his judgemental parents invite the family together for an anniversary dinner, Al does something rather reckless – he asks Zoe, a girl on work experience, to pose as his girlfriend for the night. Hopeless Romantics will be performed at Derby’s Guildhall Theatre on Tuesday 16 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £14 and concessions are available.

Cartoonopolis follows Jack Bray, a young man with severe autism, through the imaginary world he creates in his back garden. Told alongside this theatrical fantasy world is a real story about living with Jack and his autism. We see the family’s highs and lows and their ability to pull together through adversity. Cartoonopolis is part of Derby Comedy Festival and will be performed at Derby LIVE’s Guildhall Theatre on Thursday 11 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced £11 with concessions available.

Winner of ‘Best International Show’ at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2010, Burton vividly presents the life of the great Welsh actor in his own words from humble beginnings to Hollywood megastardom. Beautiful women, alcohol, wealth, stage and screen are the threads woven into this sad, happy, exuberant often hilarious one-man show. Burton will be performed at Derby LIVE’s Guildhall Theatre on Wednesday 17 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £13 and concessions are available.

Tickets can be purchased through the Derby LIVE Box Office on 01332 255800 or on derbylive.co.uk. They can also be purchased at the Sales and Information Centre, on the Market Place, Derby, DE1 3AH.
