HOLIDAY

A fun-filled show for under 6s, their families and friends

‘Holiday’ at Derby Theatre this summer

This summer, we invite younger theatregoers, their families and friends to join us for Holiday, a celebration of a child’s imagination – for young people looking to embark on a wonderful journey of adventure, excitement and play…the perfect summer treat on at Derby Theatre from Wednesday 25 July until Sunday 5 August.

Holiday has been inspired by funny and moving stories told by young children from Derby including wonderful memories of the beach, forest…and not forgetting Spaghetti Land!

Gabi and Jaz want to go on holiday, but Gabi and Jaz aren’t going on holiday. They have to stay at home instead. It’s not fair. What to do? We’ll play at going on holiday!

Join Gabi and Jaz as they gather up their things, and with the magical power of their imaginations, head off on a wonderful adventure – all without leaving the comfort of their attic.

Holiday is a brand new, charming family show which has been created and directed by award-winning director of theatre for Early Years, Sarah Argent, with original music by Ivan Stott (composer of Peter Pan and The Gingerbread Man).

"Sarah Argent has specialised in theatre for the very young and she certainly knows what she is doing" (British Theatre Guide)

As part of your Holiday experience…

Before and after performances of Holiday, we also invite children and parents to ‘stay and play’ in our FREE specially designed and designated play area, an area with a marquee, soft faux grass, play equipment, a dress-up and imagination corner, themed craft activities…and where they can claim their FREE ice cream!

A few useful things to know before ‘packing’ for Holiday

It’s time to go on Holiday! Holiday will run from Wednesday 25 July until Sunday 5 August, with performances at 11am and 1.30pm on most days (except Mondays and Tuesdays). Each performance will run for just under an hour.

Lunch boxes for children will be available to buy from our Café for only £3 each, which includes a sugar-free drink, either a cheese, ham or vegan sandwich and a healthy snack (gluten free sandwiches also available). We also have a tempting menu of food for ‘older theatregoers’ available.

Exclusive discounted parking in intu. You can purchase an all-day intu car park ticket for only £4 (available on the same day as you are seeing the performance) – which means you can see the show and stay and play for longer! Simply present your show ticket and hand in your intu car park entry ticket at the Theatre Café on arrival and request to exchange it for a special £4 ticket.

Buggies and prams. We will be offering a supervised area to store prams and buggies shortly before, after and during the run of each performance.

Accessibility. We have lift access to all floors and an accessible toilet at each level. The performance on Thursday 2 Aug at 1.30pm will be BSL interpreted and also Captioned using The Difference Engine. There will be a Relaxed performance on Friday 3 August at 1.30pm and a Dementia Friendly performance on Saturday 4 August at 1.30pm.

So why not create more magical memories with family and friends and join us on a wonderful adventure at Derby Theatre this summer.
