Hubbub Theatre Company

Launchpad

Our Launchpad Actor Training Programme for learning disabled performers continues to go from strength to strength. Our actors have completed the first six months of the training foundation year, working on their stage presence, focus and voice work, creating characters and building on their physical theatre skills. They’re currently in the process of researching and developing content and themes, which will help form the next Hubbub show. There will be an opportunity to see the first scratch of work on Friday 22 June at our LaunchPad event (see below). Tickets for just the scratch performance will also be available for £5.00 and details will follow. Our performers have already shown so much progress and we can’t wait to see how they continue to grow in the coming months.

Join us to Explore the ‘Space In Between’…

As part of our Launchpad Training Programme we’re inviting our friends and colleagues to join us for a day of devised integrated physical theatre. The day is designed for theatre makers, producers, artists, writers and creatives to give insight into the process and experience of working in a devised physical theatre space with actors with and without learning disabilities. It will be a day of doing, seeing, talking and reflecting on the unique creative potential inspired by a collaborative approach.

The event offers opportunities to learn more about the company, our technique and philosophy, as well as practical exploration through warm up and workshops led by us and our partner companies, Gecko Theatre and Told By An Idiot. There will also be a scratch performance of our work in progress and the chance to take part in meaningful conversations about the reasons we make work and who we make it for.

The event will be hosted by Déda on Friday 22 June 2018 and tickets for the day will cost £25.00. We’ll be in touch soon with a personal invitation and more details about the event, but if you’d like to register your interest please do contact us in the office.

Spring Street Festival Antics

We’re delighted that Village Green Antics will be returning this spring! We'll be performing in the Market Place for Burton's Children Easter Festival as part of The Brewhouse’s 'Play in the Place' event THIS Saturday 31 March.

If you’ve not seen it yet, Village Green Antics is a fun-filled show that combines theatre, dance, circus, clowning and live music to revisit games and races that would traditionally have been played on a Village Green... although our larger than life characters don’t quite do what they’re supposed to!

We'll be performing at various times throughout the day between 10.00am and 4.00pm and make sure you keep a look out for our Clown Powered Vehicle that will be promenading around the Market Place throughout the day, generating colour, smiles and plenty of interest.

We’ll also be performing at this year’s St George’s Day Celebrations in Derby on Saturday 21 April.

We'll be performing in the Market Place at 1.20pm and 2.40pm, as well as taking part in the annual parade. You'll also be able to see members of The Hub performing the Mummers Plays with Folk 3D on the Waterfall Stage from 12.30pm. This will be their first outdoor performance, so do come along to support us if you're in the area!

Our annual Beach Party is proving to be the highlight of our year, so grab your shorts and sunglasses and join us for new performances from the company, interactive games in the café, surprise acts and scorchin' summer tunes from the DJ's to dance the night away.

Everyone is welcome, especially those with moderate learning difficulties and their friends and families and dressing up in beach gear is encouraged. Tickets are available by clicking here.

The Hubbub Amplifies

We’re delighted to welcome two new members to the Hubbub team. Maddie Smart joins us as producer, having previously worked with the likes of Big Difference, Artreach, Curve and Glastonbury. Justine Watkins-Fife has taken up the role of Marketing and Audience Development Coordinator after working for a host of arts organisations including Motionhouse, Vamos Theatre, Hoipolloi and Derbyshire-based family theatre company WinterWalker.

We’re looking forward to working with them both in the months that follow.
